Casa La Laguna: Tales of the Whales…

January-April is the sweet spot of high season in Los Cabos, with the best weather AND prime whale watching.  They will be here shortly in a big way and as spectacular as ever; people come from all over the world.  Over the last two seasons, over 1,000 calves were born in the Baja, and that’s when the action really starts!  No need to go on a whale excursion when they’re 50 yards off the villa all day long, just like the picture below, but excursions are available 5 minutes away!

And there’s plenty else to do: A personally arranged ATV tour or horseback ride, DIRECT from the villa.  Or incredible golf, and boating or fishing charters next door at Puerto Los Cabos literally 5 minutes away, personally arranged by our in-villa concierge.  Pretty nice when gourmet food preparation is part of the deal, plus an in-villa spa with world class masseuse Tina, and airport transfers.   Luxury is a given at Casa La Laguna, where true luxury is about style and adventure.  It is a whale of a tale, but 100% true.  Just check the 60+ reviews at the link below.

Specials:

SO MUCH TO DO, OR NOTHING!

Napa Meets Baja:  Flora’s Field Kitchen is a great restaurant with an amazing environment, live music, farm store, tours of the farm, event settings, etc.  The hottest thing in Cabo; reservations a must.  Literally 5 minutes from Casa La Laguna!  Be sure they know you’re staying at CLL! (http://www.flora-farms.com/).

Family and Sophisticated Dining: In old town San Jose Del Cabo-Salsita’s for authentic but sophisticated Mexican cuisine (tell Fernando or Oscar you’re staying at CLL, Doug Schneider’s villa); (http://www.salsitascocinaycantina.com.mx/), Baja Brewing Company (http://www.bajabrewingcompany.com/), and La Panga Antigua, incredible food in a Mexican hacienda courtyard environment (http://www.lapanga.com/).  On the beach and marina in SJDC-Gachoo Sushi Bar-El Ganzo Hotel Rooftop (http://elganzo.com/dining/), Javier’s in the Cabo Azul Resort (http://www.caboazulresort.com/Dining/), and, not fancy but good, Zippers offers tasty fare in an unbeatable location right on Costa Azul beach while watching the surfers (http://www.loscabosguide.com/zippers/).  All 15 minutes from CLL or less.

A Little Grown-up Fun: Go out for a night on the town at these hot spots in SJDC: Red Martini Bar (http://www.redmartinibar.com.mx/w/en-us/home.aspx), Rock & Brews (http://rockandbrews.com/loscabos/), Baja Brewing Company, and the One & Only Palmilla bars at Aqua and Market restaurants (http://palmilla.oneandonlyresorts.com/cuisine/aguabar.aspx).  All 20 minutes from CLL or less.

The Golf Spots: A great option is Puerto los Cabos which at $175 per round (with food and drink included) during high season is affordable AND you get great game and ocean views as well; 15% discount for CLL guests, and it’s literally 5 minutes from CLL!! (http://www.puertoloscabos.com/golf.php#).  Then there’s Palmilla (http://www.palmillagc.com/index.php), Cabo Real (http://www.caboreal.com/Cabo_Real/Golf.html), and the most raved about course, and rated in the top 100 of the world, Cabo del Sol Ocean Course but it comes at a price of $355 per round (http://www.cabodelsol.com/content/golf.html).

Whale Watching: December through April, right in front, from every room and terrace at CLL; Discovery Channel on steroids!; or drive 7 minutes to the Puerto Los Cabos marina and go on a mega inflatable whale watching tour (http://www.dolphindiscovery.com/los_cabos/whale-watching-tour-sanjose.asp).

ATV Riding: Brought to Casa La Laguna for you, then 5 minutes to wide open beach and off-road riding!  Very cool and very fun (http://www.atvsmotosol.com/home.aspx).

Horseback Adventures: Brought to you on the beach at Casa La Laguna!; or the best ranch is Cuadra San Francisco, where you can do beach, hills or beach and hills adventures (http://www.atvsmotosol.com/Pages/ActivityDetails.aspx?acid=14).

Swim With The Dolphins: At Puerto Los Cabos marina in a completely natural harbor environment, not a cement tank; 7 minutes from CLL! (http://www.dolphindiscovery.com/los_cabos/los-cabos-location-overview.asp).

Art Comes to Life: San Jose Art Walk is held every Thursday night from 5 – 9 pm between November and May in the historic art district of old town SJDC.  Wander by yourselves or arrange a tour, either way you’re sure to find that one-of-a-kind piece to add to your collection (http://www.artcabo.com/).

Catch of the Day or Boating/Yachting: Definitely the best with Pisces Fleet – great boats and staff. Depending on the time of year you can catch marlin, dorado, tuna, wahoo, rooster fish, snapper, and grouper.  The owners of CLL are friends with the owners and staff, and can arrange your charter to be sure you get the right boat and best fish-finding captain! (http://www.piscessportfishing.com/).

Snorkeling: Chileno Bay (http://www.cabosanlucastours.net/Chileno-Bay.htm?gclid=COWt86uNpLkCFchxQgodhlYAxA) or Cabo Pulmo, one of only 3 live reefs in mainland North America (http://www.cabosanlucastours.net/Cabo-Pulmo-Snorkeling.htm?gclid=CMP2mI-NpLkCFQeCQgod9B8A3g): The best snorkeling around. You can go by yourself with your own gear from the beach, arrange a snorkelling cruise or join a group tour.

Join Village Life: the Organic Market in San Jose every Saturday 9am3pm has lots to see – artists, food, produce, music, and more.  Tours can also be arranged here (http://baja.com/san-jose-del-cabo/san-jose-del-cabos-family-friendly-organic-farmers-market/).

Close Encounters: get up and close to Cabo nature with the turtle release (August to the beginning of December), a swim with the Whale Sharks in La Paz, a swim with the sea lions, or a trip to Esperitu Santos Island for a great day away from it all (http://baja.com/san-jose-del-cabo/san-jose-del-cabos-family-friendly-organic-farmers-market/).
Stand Up Paddle Boards (http://supmexicodistribution.com/), Kayaking, and Cruiser bikes for rent with natural bike paths throughout the marina and adjacent spectacular natural estuary, also available at Puerto Los Cabos(http://www.puertoloscabos.com/news.php?i=70); 7 minutes from CLL.

Surfing: World class, and close to CLL.

Canyon Hike: join a tour to Canyon de la Zorra (Fox Canyon) near Santiago where you will experience a great hike leading to a beautiful waterfall
(http://www.mycaboexperience.com/activities/hiking-to-the-fox-canyon/).

Review of the Month

Both Russ and I, and his entire family are just blown away by the fantastic trip we had to Casa La Laguna. We want to thank you for all of your attention to detail that made the trip completely perfect in every way. First of all, the house itself is spectacular…even better than the pictures on your website! We were welcomed with guacamole and margaritas which really hit the spot, and we enjoyed the amazing view complete with breaching whales and jumping bat rays. Angel and Tina were so kind and attentive, and took care of us every step of the way. We were continuously surprised by every meal, and couldn’t believe how much delicious food we received each day. Betty’s 80th birthday was perfect…the flowers on the dining room table were gorgeous and Tina came right over to her and hugged her and sang “Happy Birthday” which was so precious.

There really is nowhere in the world where we feel we could have had a more relaxing, beautiful and luxurious trip than the time we spent at Casa La Laguna. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts…it is a vacation that we will never forget!
